Our view of the service
We had previously undertaken a comprehensive inspection of St. Mark Dental Surgery on 11 November 2024 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We found the registered provider was not providing safe or well-led care and was in breach of regulations 12, 17, 18 and 19 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
We then undertook a follow up, focused assessment on 6 January 2025. This assessment was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to confirm that the practice was now meeting legal requirements. We found the registered provider was not providing well-led care and was in breach of regulation 17 Good governance, of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
We undertook a second follow-up, focused inspection on 28 July 2025. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.
During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had met regulations. Further improvements were still required to ensure these were sustained and embedded in the longer term.
The practice had systems in place to manage risks, yet further improvements were still required relating to the management of fire safety, the management of hazardous materials and the audit of infection prevention and control (IPC).
The practice is in Cambridge and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice.
The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 3 dentists, 1 dental hygienist, 1 dental therapist, 1 dentist with a special interest in orthodontics, 2 trainee dental nurses and 2 receptionists.
