All Inspections

During a routine inspection

There were 15 people living at the service at the time of our inspection visit. We spoke with seven people at the service, three staff and one relative.

People we spoke with told us they were happy with the service they received and that they felt safe at Wallfield House. Comments included 'the staff understand your needs and listen,' 'I find the staff are very nice' and 'the staff always listen, they are kind to me.'

We saw that people's needs were assessed, and care plans were in place. This meant they received support in a way that met their needs.

The provider should ensure where risks are identified, risk assessments are in place to demonstrate how these would be managed.

The provider did not have effective procedures in place to manage medicines safely, which did not ensure people received medicines in a safe way.

Some staff had not received training in all essential areas and some were not up to date with training. Formal supervisions had not been taking place; the deputy manager confirmed that she had started to schedule and complete supervisions.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to nine people who use the service, five relatives and five members of staff.

People able to express their views said they were happy with the care and support they received, and felt that their needs were being met. One person told us ''staff are very helpful and friendly and look after us well'. Another person told us 'I like the fact that the home is personal and small'.

People said they get the help and support they need as there is usually enough staff on duty. People felt that staff treated them with dignity and respected their privacy and independence. People also felt safe and able to raise concerns with staff if they were unhappy.

Relatives we spoke with told us they were happy with the care and support their family member received, and felt involved in decisions about their care and treatment. One relative told us ' the home is well run and provides personal care; we have good relationships with staff and they keep us informed of any changes '. Another relative said 'I can't fault the service; the home provides high standards of care and treats people with respect'.
