Date of assessment 22 April to 12 May 2025. Nightingales Residential Care Home provides personal care and support for up to 35 older people, most of whom were living with dementia. At the time of our visit there were 27 people living at the home. This assessment was prompted by the length of time since our last inspection.
We found improvements were needed in some aspects of the service and there were breaches of regulation. This included good governance, aspects of risk management relating to people and the environment, medicine management, safe staffing, person-centred care and consent. Management oversight, governance systems and audits had not been used effectively to assess, monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service. People’s care plans did not always reflect their assessed needs and there was no evidence people and their relatives were involved in reviewing care plans. Mental Capacity Assessments lacked context and did not include the opinions of the person or their relatives. Improvements were needed to ensure activities provided were meaningful and reflected people’s individual interests. We found occasions when staff had not been recruited safely and environmental risks had not been addressed. These were addressed during the inspection.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
The provider and staff were committed to providing a safe and effective home. Work had commenced to address the shortfalls we identified.
People were supported to maintain and improve their health. There were good relationships with visiting healthcare professionals. The home was clean and tidy throughout and relatives commented that there were never any unpleasant odours. Staff knew people well and understood their individual needs.
