During a routine inspection
We saw evidence of personalised care that involved the individual and sought to maintain their independence. Staff were knowledgeable about the needs and preferences of the individual. A relative told us that staff 'really understand his needs'.
Both relatives and professionals were complimentary about the standard of care provided by the staff. One relative said '[the staff] are fantastic ' we are so fortunate'. A district nurse told us 'they care' and 'they communicate with us as appropriate'.
Staff told us that they felt well supported and records showed that appropriate training had been provided. Observations and supervisions took place on a regular basis to monitor quality.
The service had a number of systems in place to monitor the quality of care provided. Relatives reported that they had regular opportunities to discuss care with the manager. Staff were periodically observed and their performance assessed. The service also recorded comments from professionals and relatives in order to identify any problems as soon as possible.
Care records were generally of a good standard but lacked some practical details. The provider will review the retention of staff personal documents.
