  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We reviewed all the information we have gathered about Shams Moopen Dental Practice - Luton, looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 18 December 2012 and talked with people who use the service. We talked with staff.

Our judgement

People were treated by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Reasons for our judgement

People that we spoke with told us that they felt confident with the treatment they received from any member of the staff team.

We looked at the recruitment policy and records for staff working at the practice. The policy was clear and indicated that all necessary checks would be undertaken before a position was offered to a new member of staff. Staffs recruitment records included a copy of the application form, questions asked at interview, confirmation of identity and where necessary permission to work. Files contained a job description outlining main roles and responsibilities, terms and conditions of employment and references including one from the last employer.

All the staff working at the surgery had been checked for their suitability to work with vulnerable adults and children via the Criminal records Bureau (CRB).
