During a routine inspection

Wood Dene provides care to people in two houses on the same site ' Wood Dene and Rosdene. We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who lived in the home. This was because people had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences in a meaningful way. We observed staff interaction with people and we looked at care records. We spoke with two relatives on the telephone, three staff and the deputy manager.

We saw staff treated people with respect, offered them choices and maintained their privacy and dignity. We found people were consulted about their care and involved in decisions about all aspects of their lives.

We found people were well cared for and the care records were personalised and comprehensive. Staff showed a good understanding of people's needs. We saw they were warm and caring in their interactions with people.

We found there were safe systems in place to manage medicines.

We found there were systems in place to monitor the quality of service people received. The home has recently been awarded 'Voyage Care Service of the Year 2013'.
