All Inspections

5 November 2013

During a routine inspection

A person who used the service told us, 'I was involved in putting my care plan together and gave my consent for the different tasks I need help with.' A staff member we spoke with in relation to gaining consent said, 'It's quite simple really, I tell people what I am there to do and ask them if it's ok, if they say no I will try and tell them about the benefits but it's their decision.'

Each care plan we saw had a number of individual risk assessments completed to ensure the most appropriate level of support was being provided to each person who used the service.

We saw that the office had provisions of gloves, aprons, hand sanitizer and clean uniforms available. A person who used the service told us, 'All the girls have a uniform and always were aprons and gloves.'

On the day of our inspection a team meeting was held. A senior member of staff said, 'We have just had our team meeting; we discussed performance and any areas for improvement, which gives the staff opportunities to raise any concerns.'

We saw that satisfaction surveys had recently been sent out and a number of forms had been returned. We noted that the majority of feedback we saw was positive and complimentary.

During a routine inspection

Following the site visit we spoke with six people who used the agency or their relatives where they were unable to use the phone.

People we spoke with were positive about the care and support they received. Comments included, 'It's excellent', 'It's not bad' and 'They are very good.' They told us that they were involved in decisions about their care package. Comments included "They did an assessment and took into account our routines and they have adapted to our needs."

People told us that their privacy and dignity was respected and that they were able to be as independent as possible. Comments included 'They respect my privacy and dignity and I feel safe.'

The majority of the people who used the service told us that they received a consistent group of carers who arrived on time and stayed for the full amount of time. Comments included, 'We requested a consistent group of carer's and this has been provided, we are very impressed.'

People who used the service told us that staff appeared competent in their role and where new staff had been provided they had attended initially with more experienced staff.

People we spoke with said they felt their views were taken into account. One person told us that the service had met their very specific care requests. Another person said that the service had listened when they felt they wanted a change of carer.
