During an inspection in response to concerns

The people living at the home had varying levels of difficulty with communication, therefore verbal feedback was limited. We saw staff interacting with people living at the home, offering them choices and encouraging people living at the home to take part in activities.

We carried out a responsive review of the service on the 02 April 2013, as we had been told anonymously about issues of concern in relation to the care and welfare of people. During the visit we spoke with the registered provider and members of staff. Staff were knowledgeable about how to support each person in ways that were right for them. The staff spoken with were able to discuss the needs of people using the service and ways in which individuals were supported.

We found that the care plans did not accurately reflect the needs of the person. The daily records for people that used the service had not been maintained on a daily basis. The medication records were not always accurate. Staff recruitment records did not contain all necessary information. Staff training records were incomplete and staff rotas were not available.

We found overall that the service was non-compliant with Regulations 9, 11, 13, 20, 21, 22 and 23 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010.

Where areas of non-compliance have been identified during inspection they are being followed up and we will report on any action when it is complete.

During a routine inspection

This was a recently registered new service and at the time of the visit there were two people living at the service and one person receiving day care services five days a week.

The people that used the service at Waterside House Residential Care Home had learning difficulties and therefore not everyone was able to tell us about their experiences.

Relatives of one of the people spoke positively about the service and the improvement they had seen in their relative since they had lived at the home.
