During a routine inspection

There were six people using the service and we met, spent time with or spoke with all of them. People said or indicated that they were happy with the service. One person said 'It is nice here. I have learned a lot since I've been here.'

People were taking part in activities including a creative art activity, shopping and cooking. People were encouraged to be fully involved in the running of the service. One person offered cakes around that they had baked.

People told us about their recent holidays and one person said that they took the opportunity to visit their relatives while on holiday. People's hobbies and interests were supported and people had support to achieve the personal goals and aspirations.

People maintained good health because the service worked closely with health and social care professionals. The home was safe and well maintained and suited people's needs.

Staff were supported and supervised and given the training they needed to provide a good quality service. There was enough skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs and staff engaged with people in a calm, respectful and reassuring manner. One person told us '

The robust quality assurance and monitoring systems ensured that the service was safe. People using the service and staff were involved in the quality monitoring so felt part of it and had responsibility for various areas.

During a routine inspection

We made an unannounced visit to the service and spoke to people who use the service, the assistant manager and to staff members. There were five people using the service. We met and spoke to all of them and everyone we spoke to said or expressed that they were generally happy living at Hillbrow.

People told us or expressed that they felt safe and well looked after. One person said 'I enjoy doing voluntary work' Another person said that they enjoyed meeting friends in town for coffee.

People could express or talk about any problems to the staff who would listen and act.

People looked happy and relaxed in the company of each other and staff. People told us that they took part in a range of community based activities that they enjoyed.

People expressed that the home was clean and that their bedrooms were kept clean. One person had some issues with their accommodation and had complained. This was being addressed by the provider.

People expressed that the food was good. The kitchen and dining room was accessible and comfortable and people liked to eat together. People had the opportunity to go food shopping and prepare their own meals.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy living at Hillbrow. They said that they felt safe.

People told us that they had support to plan and prepare meals and to do their laundry and household chores. They said that they were involved in the running of the home.

Peoples' hobbies and interests were supported and people had jobs and went to college and to local clubs. People had support to keep in touch with their family and friends.

People said that the staff were good and that "The manager is easy to talk to". People said that they would talk to staff if they had a problem and the staff would listen and sort it out.

People had support to remain well and healthy. The service worked closely with local health professionals to ensure that people had the right support.
