During a routine inspection

Seaview was a very active and busy home. The people at home at the time of our visit were carrying out their own household chores with support from staff on duty. The atmosphere was relaxed with some banter going on between staff and some of those using the service. Interactions between staff and people living at the home was observed to be friendly but appropriate. One person told us, 'It's my laundry day, then I'm going out to buy a magazine'. Another said, 'It's my sweet day today, so I'm going to buy some'. Both these decisions were supported by the care plans in place.

One person showed they were very involved in their care plan and showed us where they had been involved and where staff had included advice. We were informed by one person, that that staff supported them whenever they needed it and gave them space when they wanted to be alone, so felt very cared for and happy. They went on to say they would complain to the manager if they were unhappy.

The home was clean and tidy and already decorated for Christmas. All people there on the day were asked permission before we were shown around the home. One person said they were not happy with us entering their bedroom, so this was respected. One person said, 'It's a mess so don't look too hard'.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with three people who used the service and five members of staff including the quality assurance manager and the operations manager.

People told us they were happy with the care they received and they felt that they were listened to and well looked after. People said that their care needs had been discussed with them when they moved into the service and that decisions had been based upon their wishes.

Staff were observed interacting with people in a relaxed and friendly way. They listened to people's requests and responded quickly and cheerfully. People's wishes for independence were encouraged and staff and management showed a good understanding of people's needs.

We saw that people were treated with dignity and respect and had choice, and their views and needs were taken into account and catered for. We found that safeguarding issues were understood and addressed.
