Date of Assessment: 3 September to 24 September 2025. St Josephs is a care home providing accommodation, personal and nursing care to a maximum of 60 older people, including people who may live with dementia. At the time of our unannounced visit, 55 people were using the service. A registered manager was in place. The registered manager is registered with the Care Quality Commission and is legally responsible to ensure that the service is compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
Improvements were needed to ensure fully effective auditing systems were in place. The environment was tired and in need of some refurbishment. We received mixed feedback about staffing levels and an enhanced approach to person centred care was required. The registered manager was responsive to our findings and committed to making any necessary improvements in a timely manner. The registered manager and staff team were committed to providing safe and compassionate care.
People received care and support from safely recruited well-trained, knowledgeable staff.People’s medicines were well managed and administered in line with the prescribers’ instructions. People’s privacy was respected, and they were supported to maintain contact with their relatives and friends. The culture of the service was friendly and open. People, relatives and staff were confident about approaching the registered manager if they needed to. They recognised that their views and feedback were valued and respected and consistently used to support quality service development.
