All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We met all of the seven people living at the service, a large number were unable to give their views verbally due to the nature of their disabilities. We used the communication tools recommended by staff to help us engage with people, we observed practice during our visit and contacted external health and social professionals and family members.

Staff supported people at the pace they found most appropriate, and were familiar with the best methods of communication. This helped reassure people and reduce levels of anxiety or fears people may have.

Interactions between staff and people were engaging. Staff were respectful and promoted the dignity and privacy of people, we observed how this had contributed towards people developing their confidence and self esteem.

A family member we spoke with said "I notice that my relative has grown in confidence over a period, they are smiling and so much happier and settled since they moved to Mountearl, staff have made them feel valued".

People had opportunities to lead fulfilling lifestyles, staffing levels provided people with the support they needed to engage in a variety of their favourite activities in the community and at home. All seven people at the service enjoyed going out to a daily event in the community.

During a routine inspection

We met all eight people using the service. A number of people were unable to speak with us due to limited communication, but they used signs and gestures to express how they felt.

A person smiled and gestured that they had enjoyed themselves when they went out to the park with staff.

A person expressed how much they valued the enthusiasm of a new support worker, so far since the person's arrival they had enjoyed visiting some famous London landmarks only previously seen from afar on the bus.

A relative spoke of the care and support received from staff, they described the home as having improved and that there was a positive and inclusive approach to people that lived there.

Care managers told us that the outcome of recent reviews concluded that individuals had their needs met at this home.
