Elwick Grange

Date of Assessment: 17 to 19 February 2026. This was an unannounced assessment. Elwick Grange provides accommodation with personal care for up to 60 people. 60 people were living at the service when we visited, some of whom were living with dementia.

People were protected from the risk of abuse and harm. Staff had completed safeguarding training. People lived in a safe environment. Health and safety checks were regularly conducted. Infection prevention and control processes were in place.

The service had a warm friendly atmosphere. People were supported by dedicated, compassionate and well-trained staff. Care records were regularly reviewed to ensure they reflected people’s needs. The service worked with external healthcare professionals to support and maintain people’s health.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests. The policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

The provider had extensive processes to monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service. People, relatives and staff were regularly asked for feedback. The registered manager had a visible presence throughout the service and promoted positive outcomes for people.

People and relatives were positive about the quality of care provided. Staff clearly knew people well and were knowledgeable about people’s preferences and care and support needs. People were treated with dignity and respect. We observed staff interacting with people in a consistently kind, respectful and compassionate manner.

Relatives and people were complimentary about the care and support provided by staff. Comments included, “The staff are very much so kind and patient”, and “The lasses make it safe, It’s clean. [Person] gets their medication about eight times a day, they are decent with that.”

People told us they felt safe. One person said, “I feel secure just being here. I get the support I need, I’m pretty independent. Tons of staff, plenty of lasses about.” A relative told us, “My impression is very caring and very safe. The general impression I get is [person] is safe.”

People were supported to access healthcare professionals. One person told us, “Today I had a hospital appointment, and a member of staff came with me. I was told I could see the optician today if I wanted to.”
