Glebe House Retirement Home is a residential care service which supports older people some of whom may be living with dementia. It is located in the village ofHollesley and can support up to 20 people. There were 19 people living in the service at the time of our inspection. We visited the service on 5 February and 4 March 2026.
People were supported by caring staff who demonstrated empathy and understanding of older people and people living with dementia. Staff knew people well and were able to describe the needs of the people they supported, and the help they required.
The building and some of the furnishings had become tired and required updating. We discussed this with the provider on our first visit, and we found some improvements on our second visit. The provider had also put a plan in place for further improvements.
People and their relatives told us that the management team were approachable, and they were able to discuss any concerns with them. However, the provider had recently introduced an electronic care planning system.A review of care records did not demonstrate that people had been fully involved in their care planning. This meant that the service may not always be aware of people’s wishes and preferences.
The registered manager investigated accidents and monitored them for trends. The outcomes of investigations were fed back to the staff team as learning. However, investigations would benefit from being more in depth and recording the reasons conclusions were arrived at. Audits covered a variety of areas including infection control and medicines. However, they did no tidentify some of the concerns found on our inspection visits.
We discussed the findings of this inspection with the registered manager and the provider who were receptive to our feedback and demonstrated a commitment to improvement.
