Howgate House

This assessment took place between 22 April 2025 and 01 June 2025. Howgate house is a 'care home'. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. The service was providing regulated activity to 47 people at the time of the assessment.

Processes were in place to ensure care was safe. Staff worked in partnership with other professionals to make sure people received appropriate care and support. Staff were recruited safely and trained to ensure they had the necessary skills. Assessments were person centred and regularly reviewed to take account of changes in needs and preferences.

Overall, people and their relatives spoke positively about the staff and care they received. People and their relatives told us they were involved in care reviews and risk planning. Comments included, “Oh yes, they are all so caring” and “They work hard and do their best.”
 

People were comfortable with the staff who supported them, and staff received the relevant training. However, there was not always adequate staff presence in communal areas.
