Highfield House Residential Care Home

Date of assessment 2 April 2026 to 15 April 2026. This was a planned comprehensive assessment. We visited the service on 2 and 9 April 2026. Our first visit was unannounced.

Highfield House Residential Care Home can accommodate up to 22 people who required personal care. At the time of our assessment the home was fully occupied; 2 people were currently in hospital. The environment was warm and welcoming, with a lounge and dining room people used, as well as an accessible garden.

We found people were supported by a consistent team of staff who knew them well. Person centred care plans were in place. Staff received relevant training to ensure they were competent within their roles. Managers were visible and promoted a positive culture within the home. Staff understood their safeguarding duties and outlined how to raise concerns internally and externally.

Staff worked in harmony and had good links with health and social care professionals. Professionals visited the service regularly. People could see their GP when required.

We found some risks were not thoroughly assessed and there were shortfalls in safe medicines management. However, managers were responsive and acted immediately on our feedback throughout the assessment visits.

People and their relatives were positive about the care and support provided at Highfield House. People told us they were treated with kindness and compassion and reported getting on well with staff at the service. People had personalised rooms and were able to have visitors anytime they wanted. People enjoyed a variety of activities tailored to their needs and preferences. People had access to the community and went out on regular trips. People enjoyed their meals and could make special meal requests if they wanted. Relatives told us people saw health professionals and changes in needs were promptly addressed. People and relatives had no concerns they wanted to share with us and felt that they could report them to managers if they did. We observed positive interactions between staff and people. Overall, people’s experiences were positive.
