During a routine inspection

Patients' dignity was respected. During our inspection, we heard the principal dentist interact with patients aged between 5 ' 8 years old. He was personable, communicative and engaging. A dental nurse we spoke with told us that staff aimed to 'win the trust and respect' of patients. They also stressed the importance of not being dismissive of patients' opinions because of their age.

Patients' care and treatment reflected relevant research and guidance. We looked at provider records and saw evidence that the dentist undertook specialist training in children's dental care.

None of the parents we spoke with expressed concern about the safety of their children at the practice. One parent told us 'the dentist is good with children.'

We saw that the waiting area and treatment rooms were clean and clutter free. The provider had a dedicated room for cleaning and sterilising dental instruments. Staff could explain the process to be followed to ensure that dental instruments were properly cleaned and sterilised. The provider's sterilising machine had been serviced within the last 12 months, in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

None of the patients we spoke with expressed concerns about the cleanliness of the treatment rooms and overall environment.

Neither of the parents we spoke with expressed concerns about accuracy of records or confidentiality.

People said they felt their child was well looked after particularly where their child was of a very nervous disposition. They also told us that their treatment was explained to them in a way that they could understand. People said they felt able to ask questions and raise concerns about the treatment of their child and were confident about approaching the dental team to ensure they knew what to expect both before and after treatment.
