All Inspections

3 February 2014

During a routine inspection

We spent time on the ward and in the Minor Injury Unit and talked to three patients who were receiving treatment in the hospital. Patients spoke highly of the care they had received. They said 'lovely staff, all of them', 'no complaints at all' and 'Oh yes, they look after you well here'.

Patients did not say they had received specific information about how to complain or if they could look at their records, when they arrived at the hospital. However, they said that they were kept updated on what was happening to them, the treatment planned and their care plan in place. They told us staff were kind, caring and would do whatever was needed to help them. Patients said they felt safe and that they felt able to raise any concerns with the staff. Staff had a good understanding of their role to ensure patients were safe.

Patients who used the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risk of unsafe or unsuitable premises.

People were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

Records of care and treatment were seen to be easy to use and accurate. Storage of personal medical information was secure to ensure the confidentiality of people using the service.

During a routine inspection

We spent time on the ward and in the Minor Injury Unit and talked to eight patients who were receiving treatment in the hospital and four patients in the minor injury unit. Patients spoke highly of the skills of the staff and the care they had received. They said ' staff are kind, courteous and prompt' and ' lovely staff, all of them'.

Patients said staff supported them to be involved in their care and make choices about how care was provided. Patients told us that they had not received specific information about how to complain or if they could look at their records, when they arrived at the hospital. However, they said that they were kept updated on what was happening to them, the treatment planned and their care plan in place. They told us that staff were kind, caring and would do whatever was need to help them.

Patients said they felt safe and that they felt able to raise any concerns with the staff. Staff had a good understanding of their role to ensure patients were safe.

Staff told us that, at this time, they felt there were sufficient staff available on the ward and Minor Injury Unit and that they had enough training to meet patient's needs.

Patients told us that staff were always available and came quickly when they called for assistance.

Records of care and treatment were seen to be easy to use and accurate. Storage of personal medical information was secure to ensure the confidentiality of people using the service.
