All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spent time on the ward and in the Minor Injury Unit and talked to five patients who were receiving treatment in the hospital. Patients told us that they were more than happy with the care they had received. They told us 'I feel safe, comfortable and happy here' and 'dignity and respect is a strength here at this little hospital '.

Patients told us that staff asked for their consent and input into the way their care was delivered. We saw that staff helped people with a variety of physical disabilities and reduced cognitive ability to maintain their independence as much as possible.

Patients were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment. People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

Staff said that they felt supported to provide care in a safe way and to a good standard. They told us that the management of the hospital were approachable with any issues.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive. The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.

During a routine inspection

We spent time on the ward and in the Minor Injury Unit and talked to six patients who were receiving treatment in the hospital. People all spoke highly about the care they had received and the way they had been treated at the hospital. They said they were treated with dignity and respect and said, ' here is wonderful' , 'I am very appreciative' and 'I am happy with the way staff treat me'.

Patients told us that the staff supported them by asking for their consent and input into the way their care was delivered. We saw that staff helped people with a variety of disabilities to maintain their independence as much as possible. People told us that they were kept updated on what was happening to them and the care plan in place.

Patients told us that they felt safe and that they felt able to raise any concerns with the staff. Staff were all aware of how to safeguard the patients in their care.

Staff told us that they felt there were sufficient staff available on the ward and Minor Injury Unit at all times and that they had enough training to meet patients needs. Staff said should they get busy, more staff could be made available.

Records of care and treatment were seen to be easy to use and suitable for purpose. Storage of personal medical information was secure to ensure the confidentiality of people using the service.
