All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Camborne Redruth Hospital is an independent healthcare service operated by Peninsula Community Health C.I.C. People who used the service we spoke with referred to themselves as patients. We therefore use the same terminology in this report.

We focused this inspection on Lamorna and Lanyon wards and talked with five patients who were receiving treatment on the wards. They were all positive about the care they had received and told us the staff were kind and helpful. People told us staff had explained their planned care and treatment in a comprehensive way that was clear and understandable.

We spoke with six staff nurses, the hospital matron and a consultant. All were positive about their roles and working at Camborne and Redruth Community Hospital.

We found patients were treated with dignity and respect and their care, welfare and treatment was managed by staff who were trained and supported to do their job. People were protected from abuse by the hospitals' policies and procedures, training and staff awareness and understanding of safeguarding.

We saw the premises were clean throughout, and we saw staff adhered to strict infection control protocol.

The hospital had appropriate quality assurance processes in place to monitor and improve the services they provide.

Staff received professional development and supervision, and had good access to training opportunities.

During a routine inspection

People who used the service we spoke with referred to themselves as patients. Therefore in this report we will use the same terminology.

We spent time on Lamorna and Lanyon wards and talked to patients who were receiving treatment on the wards. They were all positive about the care they had received and told us the staff were kind and helpful.

We spoke to three people who were visiting their relatives on the wards. They were satisfied with the care that was delivered to their relative.

We heard staff explain the planned care and treatment to patient's in a comprehensive way that was clear and understandable.

Patients were complimentary about the food with the exception of one person who had an addition made to their chosen meal which they did not like. The food we saw delivered was attractively presented and looked and smelt appetising.

We observed that systems regarding medication were well managed and carried out in line with the hospitals policies and procedures. This ensured the safety of patients at the hospital.

Staff told us they received sufficient training in order to carry out their jobs competently but had not received regular and formal supervision. Supervision is a vital tool used between an employer and an employee to capture working practices. It is an opportunity to discuss ongoing training and development.
