During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We did not visit Knowle Park Nursing Home as part of this review and we did not, therefore speak with people who used the service their relatives or staff.

This review was carried out through the review of specific documents provided to us by the registered manager at our request.

We found that improvements had been made in the maintenance of care plans and personal records relating to care. Care plans contained full details of the care needed and the choices and preferences of the person who used the service. Care plans had been signed by the persons who used the service or their representative.

Records of care delivered, such as turning charts, had been fully completed by the person delivering the care.

Security of the premises had been fully assessed and documented and improvements to security had been made.

The needs of persons who used the service in the event of an evacuation of the premises had been fully assessed and recorded. Adequate information was available to staff to ensure that a safe evacuation of the building could be carried out in the event of a fire occurring.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people and one relative of a person who used the service. They told us 'It's lovely here' and 'they look after you well'.

People felt the staff treated them with respect and looked after them well. People told us they were able to express their preferences regarding their care.

We found although staff understood people's care needs, initial assessment documents had not always been completed thoroughly and care plans had not always been updated when a person's needs changed. Staff had not always completed documentation relevant to the care they provided.

We also found the back door was not secured in the day and the risks associated with this had not been assessed. The information sheet about people for use in the case of a fire did not provide adequate information.

We found staff were supported in their role with an induction, supervision, appraisal and training.

There was a complaints system and if people made a complaint this was responded to appropriately.
