All Inspections

26 September and 2 October 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection there was one person using the service. They told us "I like my carer". A relative told us "The staff are very kind".

We found that staff supported people using the service with their care needs and sought formal consent where required. The provider was aware of what support and actions to be taken for people who were unable to provide informed consent.

We saw that the service was co-ordinated with health and social care professionals. We saw that information was appropriately shared with other relevant colleagues involved in the person's care.

Staff were supported with their professional development and they were supported with supervision, appraisal and training to carry out their caring roles. There was a complaint system in place which staff were aware of people were supported to make a complaint if required.

During a routine inspection

A relative we spoke with told us, "The service is fine. The staff are brilliant."

People who use the service understood the care and treatment choices available to them. Before people joined the service, senior staff met with them to discuss the services available and the best ways to support them. This information was documented in their plans of care.

There were comprehensive care planning arrangements in place in the service, which included up to date care plans and risk assessments, and the involvement of people in their plans of care.

The provider had arrangements in place to protect people from abuse which included safeguarding training and psychological and physical Intervention training. Safeguarding and physical intervention policies were in place, which highlighted staff responsibilities to protect people from harm.

Suitable recruitment checks were completed to ensure people were cared for and supported by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.
