During a routine inspection

We conducted a short notice inspection on 21 January 2013. Prior to our visit we spoke with the registered manager and asked them to inform patients of our visit and offer them the opportunity to speak with us about the service they received at the Nuffield Clinic. During our visit we spoke with the registered manager and members of their staff team (which included dentists, nurses, administrators and receptionists), observed how the practice worked and looked at patient records. We also looked at policies and procedures and records associated with how the registered manager ensured the quality of the service.

People expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. Comments included: 'X has a learning disability and see's one particular dentist who understands how to support people with communication difficulties', 'The dentist explains the treatment plan before treatment starts' and 'The staff are lovely, caring.'

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.
