Our current view of the service

Date of assessment 15 September to 3 October 2025. Castleford Lodge provides accommodation for up to 60 older people who require nursing or personal care, some of whom may be living with dementia. At the time of our assessment 55 people were living at the service. A responsive assessment was carried out to review the service following concerns received. During our first site visit on 15 September, some call bell systems were not working. However, after raising concerns with the manager this was addressed. We found overall there was a strong culture of safety and saw concerns were raised and investigated. People were supported to have choice and control and give feedback on their care. Staffing levels were safe, and staff received appropriate support and supervision to carry out their role effectively. Medicines were managed and administered safely. The service had clear and effective governance systems in place. People were involved in assessments of their needs. Care was based on the latest evidence and good practice.
People's experience of the service

People were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. Several people described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was carried out sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity. One person said the service had ‘lots of interesting activities to keep us engaged.’ Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them. Relatives told us they felt staff were caring and people were well cared for. Some relatives told us they preferred the company’s own staff, who knew people well, rather than agency staff. One relative told us, “I am highly satisfied with the place. My [relative] is always in clean clothes and looking cared for.” Another relative told us, “If they should have concerns, the manager was always available, but thankfully, the situation has never arisen.”
