All Inspections

16 May 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection visit there were 40 people living in the home.

We met and spoke with four people who used the service; five visitors and nine staff. We looked at four care records, two staff recruitment records and records for the management and administration of the service. We used information from the provider's quality assurance processes. We spent time observing the communal areas of the home and people's experiences of a mealtime at midday.

One visitor told us they valued the support and care given to the person they cared for. They told us about how they felt assured that their relative was in 'safe hands.' They also confirmed staff were quick to inform and updated them if there were any changes in their relative's health or wellbeing.

We saw people were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration this was because they had appropriate systems to monitor people's wellbeing. However, they were not always provided with an enjoyable dining experience.

People in general gave very complimentary remarks about the staff working in the home. They used words such as 'Wonderful,' and 'Friendly,'

People were asked about their opinion of the service and these opinions were acted upon to make improvements to what was provided to them.

11 July 2012

During a routine inspection

The inspection visit on 11 July 2012 was carried out as part of the schedule of visits and included reviewing recent information about the service received by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The last inspection of the service by the commission was carried out in 2008 and we have received routine expected information about the service since that date.

There were 35 people living in the home at the time of our inspection visit. During the visit we spoke with three people living in the home, and one relative. Seven staff were involved in the inspection visit, which included the registered manager and the area manager for the organisation. We also reviewed care records for four people and records for the administration and management of the service.

We found that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. People told us that they saw their GP regularly and had assistance to access other healthcare professionals such as specialists for their specific medical needs like dentists and opticians. A relative stated that staff were quick to respond to changes in people's health and sought assistance from healthcare professionals when it was required.

A relative told us that staff looked after XXX well and 'provided good care.'

We observed staff speaking respectfully and pleasantly to people and providing support discreetly when it was required.

People told us they were 'happy' living in the home.
