During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with five people who used he service. We also spoke with two relatives who were visiting family members who used the service at the time of our inspection and to four of the staff team.

One person who used the service told us that, "They (the care staff) look after me very well, and are always there to help me." Another person told us that, "I have everything I need here, staff always ask me if I am alright and if I need anything else." Another person said, "It is a lovely place to live, everyone is so kind and they seem to know what I need all the time. If there is anything I want I only have to ask and they get it for me."

We looked at the care records of five people who used the service including three of the people we had spoken with. The care plans provided details to staff about the person's needs and how those needs should be met and risk assessments to ensure that care and support was delivered safely.

The provider had policies and procedures in place to ensure that suitable staff were recruited into the service. The records we looked at during inspection confirmed that these procedures were followed

During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with four of the 28 people living at Mildred Stone House about the care and support provided. We also spoke with two relatives visiting at the time we carried out this review.

People we spoke with told us they were very happy with the service and felt well looked after. One person told us that staff were "Always on top of things."

Peoples' individual needs were assessed, and detailed life histories gathered and used to guide the support received.

The three staff members we spoke with told us about the training and support they had received. They also told us they enjoyed the "Varied training they had been given in the past year."

Two of the people we spoke with who lived at Mildred Stone House told us about the regular meetings they had to look at changes that may be needed, and a relative visiting their family member told us how changes to their relative's diet had been made which had improved their well being.
