During an inspection looking at part of the service

We conducted this inspection to follow up on areas of concern that were identified at our inspection on 10 February 2014.

At that inspection we found the provider had not taken the necessary action to ensure patients and others were protected from the risk of healthcare associated infections. As a result we asked the provider to take action to address the issues on which we had concerns. We asked the provider to send us an action plan to tell us how they would address our concerns.

At this inspection we looked at four of the clinical treatment rooms at the North Hykeham treatment centre and reviewed records that we had requested from the provider.

The provider had taken the appropriate measures to help ensure that patients and others were protected from the risk of healthcare associated infections.

10 February 2014

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we reviewed the provider's policies, procedures, records and staff files at their location offices. We also visited a service delivery site where an outpatient assessment clinic was being undertaken.

We found the provider had an effective consent procedure in place which provided staff with guidance and information about the various forms of consent. We also found people's consent had been obtained before their treatment had commenced.

We spoke with one person who used the service. They told us, 'I understood the consultant. He explained everything properly and fully. I have no problems with the service'.

The provider had appropriate arrangements in place relating to workers and the management of complaints.

The provider did not have effective infection control procedures in place in order to reduce risks to patients.

30 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We visited the offices of Lincolnshire Musculo-Skeletal Services (LIMSS). We did not visit the assessment and treatment centres. We did not speak to people who use the service on the day of our visit. We conducted follow up telephone calls with six people following our visit.

Most people we spoke with said all the staff were kind and courteous and treated them with respect. One person told us, 'Staff were all very polite. Very welcoming. I'm registered blind and they're always very attentive.'

People told us they were involved in decisions about their care and treatment. One person said, 'I had a voice and they listened to me. They explained everything.'

The people we spoke with told us they all felt safe and not at risk of harm.

Staff told us they had good access to training and learning through experience. They said they were supported by their managers to keep their knowledge up to date.

We asked people who used the service if they were happy with their care and treatment. One person said, 'Nicest group of people I have ever come across. I can't speak highly enough for the people at LIMSS.'
