Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 8 July 2025

The assessment was carried out on 7 and 13 August 2025. Carlton Court Nursing Home is registered to provide accommodation, personal and nursing care for up to 64 people who may have a physical disability, living with dementia, autistic people, people with a learning disability or people requiring end of life care. At the time of our assessment 54 people lived at the service.

A robust system for investigating and responding to accidents, incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns was in place. Potential risks to people had been assessed and reviewed when needed. Staff were fully aware what equipment people needed, and the environment was spacious, clean and pleasant throughout the ground floor, although the first floor was clean and pleasant, the dining area on the first floor consisted of two small rooms that did not allow for a positive dining experience.

Monitoring charts were in place for repositioning, food, and fluids; however, these were not always completed as required. We received mixed feedback re staffing, although staffing levels and people’s needs were met, some staff felt that they did not have enough time to sit and talk with people.

The provider did not always make sure that medicines were stored and disposed of safely. However, the provider did ensure people received their medicines as required by trained and competent staff.

The service demonstrated effective partnership working with external professionals to ensure people’s care was effective. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

We observed positive interactions between staff and people using the service and staff treated people with dignity and respect.

Care plans were personalised, reflected people’s care needs, and were reviewed with people and their loved ones. Plans with regards to end of life care were in place.

People's experience of the service

Updated 8 July 2025

People and relatives were happy with the support and care provided. People told us they felt safe, and staff responded to their requests for support.

People told us they could access the GP if they needed to and that they were supported to see other health professionals as and when necessary.

Activities and events were available for people to attend; however these were limited, the manager accepted that they needed to look at how this could be managed better to allow more time for activities. Forums such as residents and relative’s meetings and surveys were available for people to give their feedback. People had developed positive relationships with the staff, who treated them with respect and kindness.

A person told us, don’t worry I know I can ask for help, they are very good here and let me do what I can.” A relative told us “I can come every day, and it is always peaceful it’s great knowing [loved one] is here, it has made me feel so much better. I just live along the road and I can sleep at night knowing she is looked after here.”
