Safe environments

Regulations met

At the inspection on 22 October 2025, we found the following:

The practice had improved the systems for medicines dispensing and the practice name and address was now included on the label for dispensed medicines.

Medical emergency equipment and medicines were available. However, we observed that there were expired items within the medical emergency kit. The practice acted immediately and ordered all items required on the day of inspection. The practice must improve their systems for checking the medical emergency medicines and equipment.

The management of fire safety required improvement. The practice had implemented fire drills and had undergone a fire risk assessment by a competent person in February 2025. However, there were multiple urgent actions outstanding from the fire risk assessment. Improvements must be made to ensure better governance and oversight of fire safety, and to ensure all risk assessment actions are completed in a timely manner.

Since the initial inspection, the practice had arranged for routine performance testing of the intra-oral X-ray machines. However, improvements were still required to the oversight and assurance processes of radiation protection. We do not assess compliance with the Ionising Radiation regulations 2017 and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulations 2017 but we do request services to provide evidence that demonstrates their compliance to inform our findings.

On the day of the follow-up inspection, we found actions from the electrical mechanical servicing in February 2025 for some intra-oral X-ray machines had not been completed. Improvements must be made to ensure better governance and oversight of radiation protection, and to ensure all actions are completed in a timely manner.

Safe and effective staffing

Regulations met

At the inspection on 22 October 2025, we found the following:

Improvements had been made to the oversight of staff recruitment records. The practice had not recruited any new staff members since the last inspection, which meant we were unable to check if the practice were consistently following their own recruitment policy. We were assured all future recruitment would be in line with legislation. Oversight of staff training had also improved.

Infection prevention and control

Regulations met

At the inspection on 22 October 2025, we found the following:

The practice had ensured rips in the dental chairs were covered or repaired.

The practices procedures to reduce the risk of Legionella, or other bacteria, developing in water systems had improved. The monthly hot and cold-water temperature checks were consistently within the recommended temperature ranges as stipulated in their Legionella risk assessment.

Medicines optimisation

Regulations met

The judgement for Medicines optimisation is based on the latest evidence we assessed for the Safe key question.
