Delivering evidence-based care and treatment
At the inspection on 22 October 2025, we found the following:
Antimicrobial prescribing audits had been implemented. However, these had not driven improvement for all clinicians.
We noted the prescribing of antimicrobials was not always in line with current nationally recognised guidance. We noted a justification, frequency and diagnosis were not recorded consistently for all clinicians. In addition, where antimicrobials were prescribed, we noted that the length of the course was not in line with current nationally recognised guidance and there was no justification for this.
This issue had also been identified in the recently completed antimicrobial prescribing audit. However, this had not resulted in improvement for all clinicians. The provider should take action to ensure the clinicians take into account the guidance provided by the College of General Dentistry when completing dental care records.
