Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 14 March 2025

Applewood Support Limited provides care and support to people living in their own homes, some of whom were living with dementia and / or healthcare conditions. Some people have physical frailty. The provider had the service type to care for people with a learning disability, however at the time of our inspection was not supporting anyone with a diagnosed learning disability. We completed this inspection between 9 April and 16 April 2025. We found 1 breach of the legal regulations in relation to the governance of the service. There was a lack of consistently robust provider and managerial oversight to ensure people’s potential risks of harm were identified, risk assessed, and actions taken to mitigate those risks which staff could refer to when needed. The provider, who was also the nominated individual and registered manager, was passionate about giving a good service to people and a good workplace for staff. The provider had not always ensured staff to whom they delegated assessment and care planning tasks had the skills needed to effectively undertake those tasks. Oversight from the managerial team had not always been effective in identifying where improvements were needed. The provider was receptive to our feedback and gave us assurances they would work together and improve their risk management and oversight of people’s plans of care. Staff were complimentary about the management team and working for the service. Sufficient staff were in place to support people’s needs and staff were recruited safely.

People's experience of the service

Updated 14 March 2025

People and relatives fed back positively about staff being kind, caring and respectful. People said staff followed good infection control practices. People told us they were supported with their medicines when needed. People had not experienced missed care calls. Some people felt care calls were a bit late on occasions. People and relatives were asked for their feedback on the service they received. People told us their preferences around care were followed and felt they were listened to when they raised concerns. However, people and relatives raised concerns about the inability to contact staff outside of core office hours. This feedback was shared with the provider who addressed these issue immediately.
