Equity in access
The service made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.
The service performed better than the national average in the results of the 2025 National GP Patient Survey. This showed people could access the service when they needed it in a way that suited their needs, such as by telephone, in person or through the service’s website. For example, 88%% of respondents to the survey described their overall experience of contacting this service as being good, compared to a national average of 70%. The provider listened to feedback from people who used the service to inform access. For example, the PPG told us how the provider had ensured people could continue to contact the service in a way that met their needs which they said made them feel cared for. The PPG told us that calls were answered quickly; the website was easy to navigate and that they could access a service when they needed it.
The premises at the Alderley Edge Medical Practice were accessible to people with restricted mobility. The provider’s access audit of the branch practice showed there was restricted access. For example, there were 5 steps leading to the main entrance on 2 levels, limited parking on-site and an uneven path to the premises. The provider had a plan in place to extend and reconfigure these premises within the next 6 months to better meet the needs of patients. In the interim, the provider made people aware of accessibility at the branch site when booking an appointment.
Equity in experiences and outcomes
Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. They tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.
Leaders proactively sought ways to address any barriers to improving people’s experience. Staff understood the importance of providing an inclusive approach to care and made adjustments to support equity in people’s experience and outcomes. Staff followed processes to ensure people could register at the service, including those in vulnerable circumstances such as homeless people and Travellers. Alerts were placed on people’s records to identify their needs and how they were to be met, for example, by providing a longer appointment. The provider responded to patient feedback to improve equity in people’s experiences. For example, they had introduced a quiet area in reception that could be used whilst waiting for an appointment. Staff had completed training in equality, diversity, and inclusion.
