During an inspection looking at part of the service

Our inspection of 26 April 2013 found that improvements were needed to ensure that people were protected from the risk of receiving unsafe or inappropriate care. At this time we issued five warning notices to the provider. During this inspection we found that improvements had been made and the provider was compliant.

There were eight people using the service when we completed our inspection. The service was provided by six staff including the provider and manager. We met with four people who used the service, the provider and three staff members. People we spoke with said they were happy with the service they received. One person told us, "I would complain if I needed to but I don't need to. Things are very much right with the service I receive".

People's needs had been reassessed since our last inspection and care plans contained appropriate information about people's needs. Care was planned with and agreed by people using the service.

Staff we spoke with had a good knowledge of people's needs and knew how they liked their care provided. This was confirmed by records we saw. People we spoke with said staff provided their care in the way they wanted it.

Staff had completed training since our last inspection and were supported by the provider and manager.

The provider had a safeguarding process in place. Staff were able to describe the signs of potential abuse and understood what action they were required to take to make sure people were as safe as possible.

26 April 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

There were 12 people using the service when we completed our inspection and six staff members including the registered manager. We spoke with three people who used the service and one of their relatives, the manager and two staff members. Everyone we spoke to said that they were happy with the service they received from Caring for Your Needs. One person told us, "I am quite happy with the service I get". Another person said "The staff do everything I ask them to do".

People's needs were assessed before a service was provided however we found that this assessment was not detailed and did not contain appropriate information about people's needs.

We found that care was planned, however, staff were not provided with clear instructions as to how to care for people to ensure that this was done safely and consistently.

The staff we spoke with had knowledge and understanding of people's needs and knew how they liked their care to be provided. We found that staff had completed training since our last inspection. However, they had not been supported to develop skills to ensure that they could meet peoples individual needs safely and appropriately.

We saw evidence that the majority of staff have completed safeguarding training. However, the provider had not taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening to protect people from the risks of abuse.

14 January 2013

During a routine inspection

There were 12 people using the service when we completed our inspection and six staff members including the registered manager. We spoke with three people who used the service and one of their relatives, the manager and two staff members. Everyone we spoke to said that they were happy with the service they received from Caring for Your Needs. One person told us, 'I look forward to them coming in the morning'. Another person said 'I would recommend them'.

People's needs were assessed before a service was provided and people were involved in planning their care and support. However, detailed records were not maintained to ensure that people received the care and support they required to meet their needs.

People knew when staff would call on them and who would be calling. They told us that they felt safe with staff and were treated with respect and dignity.

The staff we spoke with had knowledge and understanding of people's needs and knew people's routines and how they liked to be supported. However, we found that staff had not completed the appropriate training to ensure that they could meet the needs of people using the service safely.

Everyone we spoke to said that the service they received was good. One person's relative described the service as 'very good'.

We viewed records and spoke to staff and found that the service did not have adequate processes in place to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.
