All Inspections

During an assessment under our new approach

We conducted this inspection from 8 September to 1 October 2026. Marnel Lodge is a nursing home providing personal and nursing care to 66 people at the time of the inspection.

The service is a dual-registered location. This means 2 registered providers are responsible for the service delivery at this home. The registered providers, are both equally responsible for the delivery of all services at this home.

Marnel Lodge Care Home provided good-quality, person-centred care. People felt safe, staff understood safeguarding responsibilities, risks were assessed with people, and the provider maintained safe care pathways, transitions, equipment and premises. There were enough suitably skilled staff to meet people’s needs, and recruitment was carried out safely with appropriate pre-employment checks. Learning from incidents and external safety alerts was shared to support improvement.

Infection risks were well managed. Medicines were generally managed safely; when gaps were identified in ‘when required’ medicines protocols, leaders acted immediately to address them.

People’s health, care, wellbeing and communication needs were assessed and regularly reviewed. Care reflected and recognised good practice, staff worked effectively with healthcare professionals and other services, and people were supported to maintain their nutrition, mobility, health and independence. Consent and decision-making were managed in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect and were supported to exercise choice, maintain independence and take part in activities that mattered to them.

The service listened to feedback, provided accessible information and planned for people’s future needs, including end-of-life care.

Leaders promoted an open, inclusive culture and effective governance, worked well with partners and used learning and feedback to improve the service.
