All Inspections

During a routine inspection

At our previous inspection in May 2012 we found that staff did not always have sufficient support and supervision. In addition complaints were not always handled effectively. During this inspection we found these concerns had been addressed by the manager.

We spoke with a range of people about the agency. They included the registered manager, staff members and people who used the service. We also asked for the views of external agencies in order to gain a balanced overview of the service people received from Lifeways Community Care.

People who use the service told us they were happy with the support they received. One person said, "Lifeways provides an excellent service. I am very happy with my carers." People told us their needs had been discussed and they had agreed to the support to be provided. They told us their carers provided sensitive and flexible personal care support and they felt well cared for.

We also visited one of the houses where Lifeways provided a supported living service. This helped us to observe the daily routines and gain an insight into how people's care and support was being managed. We observed staff treated people with respect and dignity.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service. This included talking with four service users either in person or by telephone. As some services users had complex needs and were unable to talk with us directly, we also spoke to relatives of three people.

Most people using the service were happy with the care they received. We were told that Lifeways helped people toward independence and were responsive to individual needs.

One said "I have no problems, they are helping me be independent." People told us they spent their time out shopping, going to college and doing voluntary work. One said "Everythings OK at the moment".

Most relatives told us that the care from Lifeways was good, and particularly praised their communication with relatives. One said "I only have to pick up the phone, any time of day or night". Another said they were always made welcome when they visited.
