During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment: 2 to 9 September 2026.
Wellesley Lodge is a care home with nursing for up to 23 older people with dementia and / or mental health needs. At the time of our assessment 20 people were receiving support.
This was the first assessment of the service since it registered with the CQC on 21 January 2026. It was a comprehensive assessment reviewing all quality statements within the 5 key questions.
Staff understood their responsibility to safeguard people from avoidable harm. Risk assessments were in place with clear information in people’s risk management plans about how to care for them. Processes were in place to record incidents and accidents, and systems were in place to learn from those incidents. Staff adhered to safe infection prevention and control. People received their medicines as prescribed. Improvements were required to ensure adequate records were maintained of medicine stock levels, and this was implemented shortly after our assessment.
There were sufficient staff to meet people’s needs. Safe recruitment practices were in place, and staff completed the provider’s mandatory training as well as additional training relevant to their role. They were well supported in their role with regular supervision, training and team meetings.
Staff understood and adhered to the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Staff liaised with other health and social care professionals, people and their families to gather information about their needs and how they wished to be supported. Personalised care plans were in place which detailed how people were to be supported and what was important to the person. Staff supported people to access healthcare services and followed advice from health care professionals involved in people’s care.
The management team had systems to enable them to have clear oversight of the quality and safety of service delivery. They welcomed feedback from people, relatives, staff and visiting professionals and used this to inform continuous improvement at the service. The registered manager had made links with other social care providers and the local authority to share ideas and best practice guidance.
