During a routine inspection

People's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. One person who used the service told us: 'At planning meetings, I tell people what I want to do and staff listen to me.'

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. The people we spoke with told us their care and treatment was good. One person spoke very positively about staff and surroundings. They told us: 'Staff here are cool.' They also told us: 'I am very happy here; we can choose the food we want when we go shopping.'

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

There was an effective complaints system available. One person who used the service told us: 'I know how to complain if I need to.'

During a routine inspection

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. One person told us 'when we have meetings with school my social worker and staff, I always have my say'

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. One person told us 'I moved in on my birthday, it was a really good present.'

The provider had taken steps to provide care in an environment that was suitably designed and adequately maintained. There were certificates for gas appliances, fire fighting equipment, portable appliance testing. Monthly maintenance audits showed checks carried out on smoke alarms and regular testing of fridge/freezer temperatures.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. Staff were provided with a range of training opportunities to ensure that their skills and knowledge remained up to date and that they understood the needs of people they were supporting.

People's personal records were accurate and fit for purpose. Each file contained detailed records in relation to their care, risk and support needs. These records contained sufficient detail for staff to understand how to support each person in order to meet their needs.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were able to talk to the manager and staff on a daily basis. They said that they were able to organise the service to suit their own preferences. People we spoke with said that they could express their opinions and ideas about the service.

People told us that their interactions with staff were positive and they were treated as individuals. People who used the service told us they felt safe and they were well looked after.
