Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

Kindness, compassion and dignity
The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.
People told us staff respected their privacy and treated them well. People described their relationships with the registered manager and staff as good and said the service had a positive impact on their lives. One person said, “They are nice staff, they’ve been with me so long and they are good.” Their relative said, “We’re happy with them [staff], they’re very pleasant, we have a good relationship with them.”
Treating people as individuals
The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.
People told us staff knew them well and respected their preferences. One person described how the provider ensured they received care from staff of their preferred gender and said the provider and staff had a good understanding of their religious and cultural needs.
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
One person told us how staff used the equipment provided to support them with their mobility and this enabled them to comfortably access different areas of their home as they chose.
Responding to people’s immediate needs
The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.
Staff recorded in people’s care records when they responded to people’s needs in line with their care plan and people told us that staff responded promptly to their needs. People told us that staff provided the support they required and responded promptly to any concerns.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.
Staff felt supported and had regular team meetings and supervisions where they could discuss their job roles, and any support they needed. The provider valued staff, and staff told us they felt well supported. One member of staff said, “There is good access to the manager, we get an immediate response.”
