During an assessment under our new approach

Amy Woodgate House is a residential care home that provides personal care and support to older people living with dementia. The service can accommodate up to 44 people across 2 floors and 5 separate units, each with their own adapted facilities. One unit specialises in providing care to people receiving respite care. At the time of this assessment, 41 people resided at the care home.
We undertook this inspection because the service has been taken over by a new provider and has been reregistered with us. This is the services first assessment since they reregistered. The last rating for the service under the previous provider was good, published December 2022. A comprehensive assessment was undertaken looking at all quality statements under the 5 key questions. The service is rated good overall.
The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks well. The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received relevant training and regular supervision and appraisals to maintain good-quality care.
People were involved in needs assessments, which staff reviewed regularly considering communication, personal and health needs. Care reflected current evidence and best practice. People had sufficient food and drink to remain healthy. There was effective multiagency working to achieve positive outcomes and to support most service transitions. Staff monitored health, promoted informed consent, and ensured best interest decisions were made with appropriate involvement of people who lacked capacity.
