Equity in access

Regulations met

Staff had not carried out a disability access audit. The practice was on the first floor and hence there was a flight of steps to access the property. It was therefore not accessible to wheelchair users or patients with limited mobility.

Staff described the reasonable adjustments they had made to ensure the practice was accessible. The practice had access to large print or alternative formats of information and a magnifying glass to support patients with impaired vision.

The practice told us it was open for between 3 and 4.5 hours, 4 times a week. However, this did not match the opening hours displayed on social media. Opening hours were not on display in the practice.

The frequency of appointments was agreed between the dentist and the patient; however, this was without giving due regard to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines.

The practice provided telephone numbers for patients needing emergency dental treatment during the working day and when the practice was not open.

At the time of our inspection, patients who needed an urgent appointment were offered one in a timely manner.
