All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Nottingham Unplanned Pregnancy Service ' Rosemary Street provide care and treatment for women who have an unplanned pregnancy. The service operates out of the clinic two days per week.

Patients had a consultation with a nurse and a doctor, had routine tests and were explained the different options available before reaching a decision about whether to proceed.

We found that consent was gained from patients prior to undergoing treatment. Care plans were completed detailing medical history and results from routine tests. Medicines were in stock and in date and stored appropriately.

We saw that staff had received appraisals and were all registered with the relevant bodies. A range of training courses were available for staff to attend, however, attendance needed improvement.

During a routine inspection

Prior to our visit we reviewed all the information we had received from the provider. During the visit we spoke with three patients who used the service and asked them for their views. We also spoke with a clinical nurse, an ultrasound sonographer, a doctor and the registered manager. We also looked at the treatment records for two people.

We found people gave consent to their care and treatment and received care and support that met their needs. A patient told us, 'I feel I have been treated with respect, everything has been made clear to me.'

We found people were safeguarded from abuse. A patient told us, 'I completed a form about safeguarding. I have felt I have been treated safely here.'

We found the staff team were supported through training and the provider assessed and monitored the quality of the service. A patient told us, 'I thought everyone was confident with what they were saying to me.'

During an inspection in response to concerns

The visit was part of a responsive review programme initiated at Fraterdrive LTD, following concerns raised in relation to breaches of the Abortion Act 1967, at another location.

As patients records are stored at the East Midlands Pregnancy Advisory Service Nottingham when they are not in use and staff work from both of these locations, we visited the Nottingham location to carry out this review.

We did not speak with people who used the service on this occasion.
