About the service
The Local Care Group Ltd is a homecare service. It provides personal care to people living in their own homes. There were 11 people using the service, however only 7 people received a regulated activity of personal care.
Who the service is for
This service supported older people, people living with dementia and/or people with physical disabilities who are living in their own homes.
We carried out this assessment on 27 July 2026. This service was previously rated as good. We carried out this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remain accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard. Instead, our findings focus on any areas where the service needs to improve or where we found exceptional practice.
People received highly personalised care that reflected their individual needs, preferences and choices. They were supported to participate in a range of meaningful activities and described staff as respectful, kind and caring.
Everyone was treated equally and barriers were removed to ensure all people who were supported by the service received equitable care and support. This included ensuring external services were challenged when decisions made did not meet people’s needs.
There were sufficient numbers of suitably trained staff to meet people's needs and provide care at agreed times. Records confirmed staff had completed relevant training and had the skills and experience required to do their roles effectively.
Systems and processes were in place to safeguard people from the risk of harm and abuse. Complaints, incidents and accidents were recorded, logged, investigated and reported to external agencies if required. There was a system in place to learn lessons and mitigate or reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
Care plans and risk assessments reflected people's current needs and provided clear guidance for staff on managing identified risks. Medicines were managed safely. Environmental care plans and risk assessment were in place to provide staff with clear guidance. People's care was reviewed regularly with people and where appropriate with people who were important to them. This ensured support remained appropriate and responsive to changing needs.
The service was well-led by an experienced and knowledgeable management team. Effective governance arrangements were in place which provided oversight of quality, performance and risk. These systems supported continuous monitoring of the service and helped identify and drive improvements where required.
The provider considered the Mental Capacity Act (2005). Where people were assessed as lacking capacity, mental capacity assessments had been completed. However, the records did not consistently demonstrate how the five statutory principles of the Act had been applied when determining capacity. The provider responded promptly to this feedback, provided assurances, and took immediate action.
People's experience of this service
We obtained feedback from people who used the service. Where people could not provide feedback, we spoke to their family members.
People and those important to them such a relatives told us they felt safe. One person said, “I have only been with these people, but I’m pleased as they are very, very good. I’m very comfortable with the carers. I was introduced to them, and I have a list of people, so I know who is coming.” A relative told us “[family member] looks forward to the carers arriving and they get the same half a dozen or so but feels safe with them as [person] knows them. We have rails now thanks to the carer`s recommendations and a walking frame.”
People had their emotional wellbeing needs met. One person said, “I recently lost my [family member] so I can get a bit teary on their Birthday and the day of their passing and [staff] comfort me by talking to me and sometimes not leaving me and going over their time.”
People told us their medicines were managed safely, and they were involved with their medicine decisions. One person told us. “[Staff] also do my tablets and yes, I know what I am taking as I used to self-administer. They put cream on me if I need it and don’t need to give me paracetamol as I have regular pain relief medicine.”
A person had told us they received better care from The Local Care Group Ltd. They told us, “I was with a previous company for about 6 months, but they were not very good. These are marvellous. These are friends, not carers that come.”
People told us they received their care calls on time and if staff were running late they would call them. One person told us, “I’m an early bird and they come at [time] but if they are running 15 mins late, they ring me and apologise. I can change the time if I want and they just work around it.”
People told us the staff were kind and well trained. Their equipment was checked and care reviewed to ensure the service was meeting their needs. One person told us, “The carers seem happy, always smiling. I have 2 as I have a hoist, they have told me that they were trained in how to use a hoist safely. Also, one of the managers comes every 3 months to check on my hoist and to check on how the carer`s are looking after me.” Another person said, “Kind, caring and don’t rush me. [Staff] put a towel over me when doing Personal care. They know about me.”
People told us they received person centred care. One person told us, “[Staff] are told to place my drink in front of me within reach. I do a shopping list, and they look to see what my likes and dislikes are but much more importantly than that they throw out the out-of-date things that are in my fridge.” Another person told us, “Sometimes we do crafts, we are discussing making a Christmas cake at present.”
People and relatives told us they would recommend the service to others. One person said, “We would definitely recommend as they are caring, friendly, professional, always turn up and always on time”
