Our view of the service
Starcross Trading Ltd trades as BEARS (British Emergency Ambulance Response Service), it is operated by Starcross Trading Limited. BEARS is an independent ambulance service providing both an emergency and urgent care (EUC) and a patient transport service (PTS) to both adults, children and young people. This includes the transfer of high dependency patients, paediatric and neonatal intensive care transfers, non-emergency transfers and secure/mental health patient transfers and a paramedic service. Journeys are made to various locations within and outside London. The service has vehicles operated by emergency care assistants, emergency medical technicians and paramedics. The provider is registered for the regulated activities of Transport services, triage and medical advice provided remotely and Treatment of disease, disorder and injury.
We carried out this assessment following information of concern around staffing issues and poor performance. We inspected 10 quality statements across the safe, caring and well-led key questions. The service demonstrated an effective safety culture where events were investigated, and learning was embedded to promote good practice.
People's experience of this service
Patients said staff treated them well and with kindness. People said they did not feel anxious about raising concerns. People we spoke with said communication with the service was good and were given as much information as needed whenever they contact the service.
