Brantwood Hall Care Home is a service providing personal care for up to 29 people, some of whom are living with dementia. There were 23 people living at the service on the first and second day of the assessment, and 24 people living at the service on the third day of the assessment.
The assessment was carried out in line with CQC’s assessment priorities, age of rating. It commenced on 2 February 2026 and was completed on 11 February 2026. Site visits took place on 2, 3 and 11 February 2026 which included an out of hours visit.
Oversight at the service was not robust and quality assurance systems and processes were ineffective in identifying or addressing shortfalls. We identified several concerns during the assessment in relation to fire evacuation risk; medicines management; falls oversight; availability of equipment; record keeping; investigating and appropriately notifying concerns; Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS); pre-admission assessments; appraisals; and staffing.
There were not enough staff suitably deployed to meet people’s needs. A lack of effective and consistent leadership at the service had impacted upon quality of care and there was a failure to take effective action prior to and during the assessment to address this. We identified 2 regulatory breaches in relation to staffing and good governance.
In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward. This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we use our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.
