Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 26 June to 29 July 2025. The service is a residential nursing home providing support to older people and people living with a dementia. At our last assessment the service was rated inadequate and breaches of regulation were identified. These related to medicines and risk management, safeguarding, training and governance. This assessment was carried out to review the progress the provider had made since then. In some areas improvements had been made, but in others improvements had not been found and the provider remained in breach of regulation in relation to governance.

Risks to people were not always effectively managed or recorded, including in relation to the safety of the premises. Consent to care was not always effectively obtained or recorded. Systems were in place to obtain feedback, but those involved did not always feel these were effective. The provider’s governance processes had not consistently introduced or sustained improvement. The rating from our last assessment was not being displayed when we visited the service.

Medicines management had improved, but further and sustained improvement was needed. People were effectively supported with eating and drinking, but improvements were needed in how this was monitored and recorded. Care plans contained evidence of personalisation and guidance for staff on how people wished to be supported, though they did not record how people or those close to them were involved in planning or reviewing care. People and relatives told us they could participate in activities at the service.

This service has been in Special Measures since 16 April 2025. The provider demonstrated improvements that have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

People told us they were happy with the care they received. They said they felt safe and well looked after by staff. People and relatives said staff knew people well and were able to provide person-centred care. One person told us, “The staff are smashing they will do anything for you. If I need anything they are there.” People did not always know who the manager was and were sometimes unaware of changes at the service.
