During a routine inspection

We spoke with 4 parents of children and young people who were using the services of The Glenfield Project at the time of the inspection. People were complimentary about the service and people's comments included: 'Very experienced and reliable with flexible hours and dates.' 'I have a 100% input into my daughter's support plan.' One parent told us that they knew their daughter was happy with the support workers as she always heard her daughter laughing at bath time whilst the support workers sang to her.

A representative of the provider and the registered manager told us how they worked with other agencies for the benefit of the children, young people and their families in order to promote consistency of care through the sharing of information. Parents of children and young people using the service told us they had regular reviews of their child's support packages and that other agencies attended the reviews on some occasions.

We asked parents for their views about the support workers who provided care and support to their children. People's comments included: 'They have a fantastic attitude, they know my son very well and they (staff) have a very good attitude.' And 'I've built up good relationships with the support workers; they all know exactly what they're doing.'

We spoke with 5 members of staff, which included 3 team leaders and 2 support workers. Staff told us they were supported by the provider by their taking part in supervisions with their line manager and through their attendance at team meetings. All staff had a comprehensive training package which enabled them to support the children and young people well, which included training in specialised areas, which were related to the individual needs of the children and young people.

We found that there were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service and make improvements where required.

People told us the care their relative received fully met their needs. They also told us that the staff were professional in the their duties and always respected an individuals dignity and the choices made by them. People also told us that the provider ensured that people who used the service were kept safe and that the provider recognised the importance and value of other family members being involved in the care and activities of their relative.

We found the provider ensured staff had the proper skills and experience to deliver the care required by people using the service. They also carried out regular audits to ensure the service met the needs of people and that support plans evolved as the needs of people changed.
