During a routine inspection

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. The name appears because they were still the Registered Manager on our register at the time. We have confirmed that the provider knows the action to take in these circumstances.

People's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. Consultation and scanning rooms had signs telling people not to enter when the room was in use. There were lockable changing rooms and a chaperone service was offered.

Imaging scans were carried out safely and followed current regulations and guidelines. However, radiology doctors did not have any proven experience of diagnosing children's conditions. The centre had recently opened "one stop" diagnostic clinics aimed at diagnosing and treating heart and lung conditions. There was no record of those clinics carrying out essential safety checks, treatment plans or communication with referring doctors. There were arrangements in place to protect vulnerable adults, but there was no guidance for staff to help them protect children from abuse.

Imaging staff had been recruited in a safe and methodical manner and were appropriately qualified. However, doctors working at the centre had not agreed to comply with procedures, protocols, and governance arrangements set up by the provider to ensure treatment was delivered safely and to an appropriate standard.

During a routine inspection

There was not a registered manager at the clinic but a new perosn had been recruited and was due to start work the week after our inspection. The registered manager from another clinic was present on the day of our inspection.

We were unable to speak to people who used the service as the clinic was quiet on the day of our visit. We saw documentary evidence of recent patient satisfaction surveys that indicated patients were satisfied with the service they received. One person commented 'Would definitely recommend the place. Excellent service' and another commented 'What lovely staff, put me at my ease'.

We found that people's needs and risks had been assessed and treatment planned and delivered taking into account individuals needs. We observed systems in place to ensure that machines were maintained safely. There was adequate skilled staff to care for patients. We saw that there was a robust system was in place which assessed and monitored the quality of service provision and that records were made and stored securely.
