During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out an announced focussed inspection of Michael Daly Dental Practice on 09 April 2015. We had previously inspected in May 2014 and found the service required improvement in the arrangements for cleanliness and infection control.

This inspection was carried out under the new regulations Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 – fundamental standards.

We carried out this inspection to check the processes in place for infection control only. For this reason we have not rated this location or the key question to which this relates.

We found the practice had in place procedures and processes for cleanliness and infection control.

During a routine inspection

The dentist for Michael Daly Dental Practice operates on part-time hours therefore on the day of our inspection there was no one using the service. After our inspection we spoke with two people who used the service by telephone.

One person told us, 'He talks everything through with me so that I understand'.They are absolutely brilliant and I wouldn't go anywhere else.' Another person told us that they were able to get an appointment that was at a convenient time for them.

We saw that people's care and treatment was discussed and planned with the involvement of the person who used the service. The provider cooperated with other dental professionals and other people involved in the person's care in order to ensure that appropriate care planning took place.

We found that there were systems in place for the safe decontamination of dental instruments. The premises although cleaned were not hygienic due to the type of flooring used in the clinical room.

We found that there was a process in place for people to give feedback on their treatment. The dental staff kept up to date with best practice and this was reflected in the service provided to people.

During a routine inspection

We have been unable to inspect this location despite sending out two letters of intention one on 09 January 2014 and another on 14 February 2014. We attended the location on two separate days but the premises was closed. We will inspect this location after 01 April 2014.
