Updated 15 October 2025
Date of Assessment: 27 August 2025. Primary Care Sheffield provides extended access services and some general practice services in ‘hubs’ across the city of Sheffield. All the ‘hub’ sites are existing GP surgeries and are mostly staffed by local GPs, clinical and non-clinical staff to provide a mix of services as an extension of routine GP services. As part of this assessment we reviewed the enhanced extended access service, the same day urgent care service which included a home visiting service and the sexual health and community gynaecology service. We visited the main site where the management and administration team were located and 4 of the hub sites across the city (Fairlawns Medical Centre, Norwood Medical Centre, Greystone Medical Centre and Darnall Primary Care Centre). The provider is Primary Care Sheffield Ltd (PCS). PCS is owned and directed by 75 of Sheffield’s General Practices, covering 600,000 people with a mandate to support improvements in patient care through a unified approach to supporting general practice and scaled provision of services. This is the first assessment for this service following a change of registration with CQC. The provider remains the same, however, the location’s head office address had changed. Although we inspected the Assessment Service Groups of Out of Hours and General Practice together this report relates to the General Practice Assessment Service Group. We did not inspect the mental health service or the vasectomy service as part of this assessment. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
