All Inspections

29 August 2013

During a routine inspection

When we visited Crystal Lemon on 29 August 2013 we spoke with one relative and five of the 70 people using the service and three staff members. People told us they were happy with the care and support they received from staff. One person told us; "They are very good to me. I have no complaints.' Another person said; "I need a lot of help. I'm satisfied with all the help I get.'

Care plans showed that people and their families had been involved in the development of their care plans. This was confirmed in discussions we had with people using the service.

We looked at the staffing systems in place including staffing numbers, and also the training and support provided for staff. We saw evidence that staff received training relevant for their role; and found that all calls had staff allocated to attend.

We spoke with a number of staff on duty who all told us they enjoyed working at Crystal Lemon Care. They said they felt supported by the manager.

We reviewed the systems in place for managing complaints should they arise, and saw that clear procedures provided guidance for people living in the home, relatives and staff.

We found records to be well maintained and stored safely and securely.

7 March 2013

During an inspection in response to concerns

We visited Crystal Lemon Care Limited on the 07 March 2013 in response to information we received which alleged that some people who used the service were put at risk because there were insufficient staff to care for them appropriately.

During this inspection we looked at the care files for three people who used the service. Care plans provided clear guidance for staff to ensure care was given with continuity, and there were risk assessments in place which identified the level of care people required to keep them safe and well.

We spoke with seven of the 25 staff who were working for Crystal Lemon Care Limited at the time of this inspection. They told us that they felt well supported and appropriately equipped to carry out their roles safely.

We spoke with five people who received care from this provider. One person said, "I have double up visits, and both carers always attend. I'm very happy with the care and the office always let me know if there's any problems". Another person said, "I can't say anything bad, they're all lovely lovely people and treat me very well.

We also spoke with the relatives of three people who were unable to speak with us themselves. They were all satisfied with the service their relatives received, and said that the office staff always responded efficiently if they had any concerns.

We did not find any evidence to suggest that people were put at risk through insufficient staffing or inappropriate / unsafe care practices.

9 November 2012

During a routine inspection

During our visit to Crystal Lemon Care Limited on 9 November 2012, we spoke with five people currently using the service. People commented about the care they received from the service, saying that they ''...find it good and very efficient''' or that they were '...quite satisfied.' Another said the staff were ''...very friendly and stop for a chat...'' and that they felt safe with them. People told us staff respected their privacy and dignity and asked them if they needed any other support before they left at the end of a visit. People said staff were polite, friendly, helpful, trained and experienced to carry out their roles. For example, assisting one person to remain independent in their own home, as they wanted.

Crystal Lemon Care Limited had recently stopped providing a service in the Milton Keynes area. However, people in Bedfordshire continued to be provided with care and support.

We saw that good individual care plans, daily notes and other records were kept for people. This ensured appropriate and safe care was delivered to people at all times.
